Using the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card SNAP primarily provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families by enabling them to purchase various food and groceries.
In California the program is called CalFresh.
Who is eligible?
Using the information on the Benefits.gov website, the following is a list of criteria used to ascertain whether an individual is eligible to receive CalFresh benefits:
- They must have a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) of less than $2,001, or;
- They must have a current bank balance (savings and checks combined) of less than $3,001 and your household participation with any of the following:
- A person or persons who are 60 years of age or older

According to the letter from the Welfare Directors of all counties released by CDSS, the emergency benefit has been renewed for November with payments beginning December 18, 2022.
The letter also states that families covered by the program will receive a minimum emergency benefit of $95 for the month of November.
