weth al United States of America In the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, residents across the country, especially from low-income families, are becoming more dependent on welfare programs with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (pop), formerly known as food stamps, specifically helping low-income residents meet their food needs.

Using the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card SNAP primarily provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families by enabling them to purchase various food and groceries.

In California the program is called CalFresh.

Who is eligible?

Using the information on the Benefits.gov website, the following is a list of criteria used to ascertain whether an individual is eligible to receive CalFresh benefits:

  • They must have a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) of less than $2,001, or;
  • They must have a current bank balance (savings and checks combined) of less than $3,001 and your household participation with any of the following:
  • A person or persons who are 60 years of age or older
  • A person with special needs (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself).

Furthermore, to be eligible, an individual must have an annual income of at least $17,667 before taxes with an additional $6,136 specified for each additional family member.

Social Services (the department) has been given authority to provide CalFresh emergency benefits.

The decision to extend emergency provisions is made on a month-by-month basis until the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) decides to rescind the federal public health emergency declaration made at the start of the pandemic.

When will you receive your benefits for November?

According to the letter from the Welfare Directors of all counties released by CDSS, the emergency benefit has been renewed for November with payments beginning December 18, 2022.

The letter also states that families covered by the program will receive a minimum emergency benefit of $95 for the month of November.
